After leaving my job in July it has been quite a busy time. Busy, but amazing. Friends from The Netherlands came to visit me; which meant lots of sun, cocktails and girltime. Also, the boyfriend and I went to visit my family for a week. This week was actually way too short, but we enjoyed every second of it. Even though I didn’t mind going back to Spain, of course I started to sob when I had to leave my parents at the airport. I am afraid I will never be able to leave my parents without tears. But mama and papa will come to visit us in September, so there is something to look forward to!
After a couple of weeks full of friends and family, Jordi and I wanted some quiet time. The beach from where we live is pretty peaceful (as long as you don’t get to close to the hotels), but we decided to go somewhere else. We heard that the beach of Ocata is supposed the be one of the best beaches around Barcelona, so we decided to check it out. When we arrived at the beach it was very cloudy, but still very warm. I don’t know if it had to do with the “bad” weather, which is rather normal in August, but it was quiet indeed. The beach was very clean, there were many restrooms, showers and beach restaurants.
It was definitely warm enough to take a swim and the water was absolutely PERFECT. Not too cold and not too many big waves. After wasting a lot of energy we went for lunch in one of these beach restaurants. The food was nothing special, but fine. I cannot say it was cheap, but that is basically because you are paying for the location. It was nice to have lunch out, but I also think it is worth it to just bring your own sandwich and drinks. Around 3pm the sun finally started to shine and we decided to stay a couple of hours more (which resulted in a sunburn). It was a very relaxing day, on a pretty, clean and quiet beach. Often I hear people complain about the too crowded beaches in Barcelona, because it is full of locals and tourists. I would recommend these people to take the train and enjoy a better atmosphere in Ocata, it is only 30 minutes by train from Plaça de Catalunya!
